Athens, 4 March 2026
Greek Data Center Association (GRDCA) – the organization representing data center operators, service providers, and key stakeholders of the sector – has officially joined the European Data Centre Association (EUDCA).
This strategic development reinforces Greece’s rapidly emerging role as a digital and connectivity hub for the Mediterranean, the Balkans, and Southeast Europe. Additionally, it strengthens trust in the Greek market and supports the creation of a stable and attractive environment for investment by hyperscalers, providers of submarine connectivity and subsea infrastructure solutions, telecommunications operators, and other strategic stakeholders. As a result, it contributes to the accelerated growth and maturation of the Greek digital ecosystem, while also promoting greater decentralization and strengthened resilience at the European level. At the same time, it empowers the GRDCA to secure strong and focused representation of the Greek market in shaping a more integrated, competitive, and resilient European digital economy.
With its accession to EUDCA, GRDCA becomes part of a dynamic alliance of leading data center companies working collaboratively to shape Europe’s digital future. EUDCA – the leading non-profit European body representing the data center industry – serves as the sector’s collective voice in EU policymaking, advocating for the interests of operators and national associations across the continent. Through this collaboration, the European data center community unites around a shared ambition: to strengthen Europe’s global digital leadership and to advance policies that drive innovation, sustainability, and long-term resilience. Within this framework, GRDCA will play an active role in key European initiatives, including strategic policy discussions and the implementation of the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact, a landmark initiative aimed at achieving climate-neutral data centers across Europe.
Key objectives of the collaboration:
- Policy Alignment: Working closely with EUDCA members to contribute to the development of a coherent European policy framework that incorporates the priorities of the Greek market.
- Sustainable Development: Promoting best practices, energy efficiency, and innovation, in full alignment with the European energy efficiency framework, as defined by the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED).
- Investment & Development: Creating a competitive and investment-attractive environment that accelerates the growth of Greece’s data center ecosystem and supports the country’s broader digital transformation.
- Know-how & Expertise: Leveraging EUDCA’s knowledge hub and research activity, including the State of European Data Centres 2025 report. As an active member, GRDCA gains access to a broad ecosystem of knowledge exchange, certification standards, training programs, and talent-development initiatives that foster the continuous advancement of the data center industry in Greece.
Alexandros Bechrakis, Chairman of GRDCA and CEO of Digital Realty in Greece, stated:
“GRDCA’s membership in EUDCA marks far more than a formal affiliation – it represents a defining moment for Greece’s role in Europe’s digital future. Positioned at the crossroads of geography, expertise, and investment, Greece is uniquely placed to help shape a robust and sustainable data center ecosystem for the continent. By joining forces with Europe’s leading industry voices, we aim to accelerate innovation, raise the bar for sustainability, and reinforce Europe’s digital sovereignty. Our ambition is to ensure that Greece contributes meaningfully to the development of a resilient, forward-looking, and globally competitive European digital ecosystem.”
